Penn State Labor School Hosts Panel on Worker Power and the Law

 Last week, the Penn State Labor Study program kicked off Part 1 of the course “Worker Power and the Law: Barriers and Opportunities”. Over 80 labor leaders from across the Commonwealth took part in the course. Penn State instructors went over international and domestic labor laws. barriers for workers in the United States compared to other developed countries.

The course included a panel discussion with Maria Del Carmen Diaz – PA Domestic Workers Alliance, Meredith Whittaker – AI Now Institute, Alex Wallach-Hanson – PA United.  Panelists discussed the struggles of organizing across various industries and how lack of certain protections makes organizing difficult.

Words of wisdom such as “Bargaining for the common good”, “This is not a battle of ideas it is a battle of power” and many more were shared.  Part 2 of the course we be coming in the near future.
