Faculty, staff and students of Shippensburg University came out in full force to Burgers And Ballots today. From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., we had a steadily long line of people hungry for food and information.
There were no dull moments once the grill and the crowd both got fired up. We had speakers including PA AFL-CIO President Rick Bloomingdale, Central PA ALF Director Zach Hause, a representative for Ship’s College Republicans and APSCUF members Kara Laskowski and Stephanie Jirard.
We also want to give a special thanks to Dave Motel of USW, Casey Karns, Nancy Jones and John Murray of AFSCME, and Doug Brown and Diana Worden of APSCUF.
It was also great to see student media covering the event as Shippensburg University’s student-run newspaper The Slate were in attendance as well as the on-campus television station SUTV.
We asked APSCUF and AFSCME union members along with some Ship students why they are voting in this crucial election. See some of their responses below.
These events are getting better and better turnout and the more people spread the word, the better they will get. We are counting on these good turnouts to translate to good turnout on November 4.
The RV will be at West Chester University on Tuesday, October 14 at 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the corner of Church Street and University Avenue. We will be at Slippery Rock University on Wednesday, October 15 at 12:30-1:30 p.m. at the Quad’s SGA pavilion. On Thursday, October 16 at 11 a.m.-1 p.m., Burgers And Ballots comes to Kutztown University – more details to come.
