The Work and Family Breakfast was held on Wednesday, April 11, 2018, at 7:00 a.m., in conjunction with the Pennsylvania AFL-CIO 43rd Constitutional Convention.All proceeds from the Work and Family Breakfast and Silent Auction went to benefit Variety, the Children’s Charity of Pittsburgh.Delegates of the Pennsylvania AFL-CIO gathered early on Wednesday morning for the Work and Family Breakfast, where multiple remarkable sisters and brothers were honored for their contributions to the labor movement and their communities.
Keith Hill of AFGE and Marjorie Krueger of CWA were honored with the Union Leadership Award; Dominic “Mickey” Sgro of AFSCME was honored with the Community Achievement Award; Shirley Yates of CBTU/AFSCME was honored with the Constituency Group Achievement Award; DeWitt Walton of USW/APRI/County Council and Roseann Barker of UFCW/NW-PA ALF/Erie-Crawford CLC were honored with a Special Recognition Award; and a Special Tribute was made in the memory of Anna Jake Rickert of USW 5306/Mercer CLC. Congratulations to all!
CEO of Variety: The Children’s Charity Charlie LaVallee spoke at the breakfast as well and shared the story of the children throughout Pennsylvania who have received adaptive bikes, strollers and communication devices through his organization, thanks in large part to the massive support of organized labor.
