Candidate Feature: Jennifer O’Mara, State House District 165

28199599927_e3f163484c_o (4)Jennifer O’Mara comes from a union family.   Born in Southwest Philadelphia to a union firefighter and a stay-at-home mom, Jenn’s father died when she was 13 by gun suicide. Their family moved to Prospect Park where her mother found a job as a union bus driver and, thanks to her father’s union pension and important public services, Jenn’s family stayed afloat.

“I’m from a union family. My father was a union firefighter, and when he died my mother got a job as a union bus driver. Our family made it because of the support we got from unions, so I know firsthand how important unions are for their members, their families, and all of our communities”, remarked Jenn. “I’m running to fight for union members and protect the rights of working people in Harrisburg.”

Jenn worked three part-time jobs to become her family’s first college graduate, earning a degree in secondary education and her teaching certificate. Jenn has always fought for people – from helping her brothers navigate the financial aid system on their way to their own degrees, to helping her now-husband and two-time Purple Heart recipient Brad Bitting navigate the VA and receive a veteran’s pension. She’s running to bring the spirit of public service to Harrisburg.

The Pennsylvania AFL-CIO knows that Jennifer O’Mara will do a great job fighting for workers and their unions in Harrisburg.
