Pennsylvania Pipe Trades Hold Annual Convention in Hershey

This week, leaders of the United Association locals across Pennsylvania came together in Hershey for their Annual Convention. Pennsylvania AFL-CIO President Rick Bloomingdale and Secretary-Treasurer Frank Snyder were honored to address the Convention. Both officers congratulate Brother Ken Broadbent, PA State Pipe Trades Association President, and Local 449 Business Manager, on the outstanding event.

Governor Tom Wolf addressed the convention to talk about investing in infrastructure and the importance of lifting up the world-class building trades apprenticeship programs. He also took the opportunity to talk about Restore PA, legislation that significantly reinforces and expands the PA’s infrastructure, disaster preparedness, flood control, and the rebuilding of our schools. All projects that need skilled building and construction craft work.

In their remarks, Pennsylvania AFL-CIO officers drew attention to House Bill 163, deceptively called “Modernize PA’s Separations Act”. HB 163 doesn’t modernize anything, it repeals the Separations Act. The bill moved from the House State Government Committee to the Rules Committee on June 19th. This bill is opposed by the Pennsylvania Building and Construction Trades as well as the PA AFL-CIO.
