Gerrymandering: The Case for Census 2020

Remembers what the 7th Congressional district looked like before 2018? It was nicknamed Goofy Kicks Donald Duck for a reason.

Every 10 years, the United States conducts a census that will determine some of the most important functions of government. Information from the census determines how many congressional districts a state has, how much federal funding states receive, and more. Most importantly the census has a major impact on redistricting, both federal and state districts.

The Pennsylvania AFL-CIO has understood the importance of redistricting in our Commonwealth. Until two years ago, Pennsylvania had one of the most gerrymandered congressional maps in the country. And our state senate and house districts are no better. Needless to say, this has a significant impact on our daily lives.

Getting a complete and accurate count in the 2020 census is absolutely vital. Our representation in our own government depends on the Census If we don’t want to go backward, we need to step up and be counted. The first day of the 2020 census is April 1, 2020. If you or someone you know are looking for a well-paid part-time job, Pennsylvania is hiring Census workers. Check out PA.gov/census for more information.
