2018 Scholarship Essay Contest

The Pennsylvania AFL-CIO will be accepting applications for the 2018 Scholarship Essay Contest.  All entries must be submitted or postmarked by January 31, 2018. Every year the Pennsylvania AFL-CIO offers scholarships to affiliated union members and their families. The criteria for entering are broken up into two categories with different topics for each surrounding an opportunity for students to learn more about the importance of Organized Labor in America. YouthBuild Students Take Part in Day of Caring, Reading

United Community Services for Working Families, an agency associated with the Reading-Berks Central Labor Council, recently participated in the United Way Day of Caring in Reading when its cohort of YouthBuild students volunteered to clean up Aulenbach’s Cemetery. Eight YouthBuild students along with the UCSWF President Ashley Chambers and program instructors spent the day cleaning up fallen tree branches, mowing the grass and power-washing the buildings.  Read More

In Case You Missed It: CSI 2017

Last week the Pennsylvania AFL-CIO held the 58th Annual Community Services Institute in Reading, PA.  Union and community activists from across the Commonwealth came together to discuss and plan projects in their neighborhoods.  The three-day conference included workshops and panel discussions on a wide range of issues facing Pennsylvania’s communities and training for CSI delegates.    Read More
