The Pennsylvania AFL-CIO Education Committee is accepting completed applications for 2008 Pennsylvania AFL-CIO Scholarships.  For the ninth year, it is the pleasure of the Pennsylvania AFL-CIO to offer our Scholarship Essay Contest to help contestants conduct research about the many contributions that the Labor Movement has made to American society.

ELIGIBILITY: Pennsylvania AFL-CIO Scholarships are available exclusively for PA AFL-CIO Affiliated Union Members and their families.

SCHOLARSHIP CATEGORIES:
 
SCHOLARSHIP AMOUNTS:

Pennsylvania AFL-CIO Scholarships will be offered in three categories:

  • Graduating high school seniors;
  • Post-secondary education students;
  • Affiliated Union Members attending an accredited institution of higher learning.

 
The amounts of Pennsylvania AFL-CIO Scholarships will be awarded in three categories:
  • First Award ………$2,000
  • Second Award ……$1,000
  • Third Award ………$500

HOW TO APPLY

Complete the application form and mail it to the PA AFL-CIO no later than January 31, 2008 – (You can either download, print, complete and submit the application form that appears below or call or email the Pennsylvania AFL-CIO to have an application form sent to you.);
Write an essay about the topic listed for your category (topics appear below; essays must be a minimum of one thousand five hundred [1,500] words);
List three references and include their names, addresses and titles (at least one reference must be someone from a Labor organization);
Make sure your essay is neatly prepared, double-spaced and typed on regular white paper and a 1/2 Floppy or CD; and,
Mail all of the items listed above to the Pennsylvania AFL-CIO.
