PA AFL-CIO Launches New Web Site
Harrisburg, PA -- The Pennsylvania AFL-CIO has redesigned its Web site, www.paaflcio.org, to better respond to the needs of union and non-union workers across Pennsylvania.
"The internet and e-mail have transformed how politics and organizing are done, and it was clear to the Pennsylvania AFL-CIO that it was time to update our Web-based offerings," said William George, president of the Harrisburg-based association of Pennsylvania labor unions.
"We think have succeeded in creating a site that will serve as a hub for union activism in Pennsylvania," said Bethany Bobb who supervised the development of the site with PR/Design, a Lewisburg-based new media development firm specializing in work for non-profit and public advocacy organizations.
"Of course Web sites of this kind are never really finished," said George. "The new site is really the beginning of a new, more efficient process of providing information of importance to Pennsylvania's working families and a recommitment of the Pennsylvania AFL-CIO to its duty to stand up for the rights of all workers in the state."
The new PA AFL-CIO Web site sports a variety of new features that will union leaders and rank and file members to interact more quickly and efficient with the state organization. It also provides information that will be of use to all Pennsylvania workers. Visitors to the new site can:
Sign up for e-mail from the Pennsylvania Labor Network to receive up-to-the-minute news on issues that affect all working Pennsylvanians.
Find links to the PA AFL-CIO RSS service that allows users to get current information without the hassles of email.
Download audio "podcasts" on issues of interest to workers and their families.
Find out about actions they can take to help protect workers rights in Pennsylvania and volunteer to support various pro-worker issue campaigns sponsored by the PA AFL-CIO
Richard Bloomingdale, Secretary-Treasurer of the Pennsylvania AFL-CIO, noted that new features will be added to the site over the next several weeks. "We ultimately hope to offer video clips and the occasional live Webcast through the Web site", said Bloomingdale. "Our long-term goal is to keep the PA AFL-CIO on the cutting edge of technological organizing opportunities."
