Gov. Edward Rendell and PA. AFL-CIO President William George To Kick Off Labor to Labor Neighborhood Walk on Saturday, September 16, 2006 in Bucks County at United Steelworkers, 920 Trenton Road, Fairless Hills, Pennsylvania
Governor Edward Rendell and Pennsylvania AFL-CIO President William George will join in kicking off the Labor to Labor walk in Bucks County on Saturday morning, September 16, 2006 beginning at 9:00 A.M at the United Steelworkers, Local 4889, 920 Trenton Road, Fairless Hills, Pennsylvania.
Governor Rendell and President George will be joining with union member volunteers in canvassing union neighborhoods in Bucks County from 9:00 A.M until 12:30 P.M. The volunteers will be talking to union members and their families and distributing leaflets about key economic issues and encouraging working families to vote their economic interests and concerns in this election. Key issues to be discussed during the walks include jobs, health care, retirement security, and minimum wage.
Governor Rendell and President George will thank the volunteers for taking the time away from their families to encourage union members and their families to vote and support candidates that support their interests and concerns.
Union members in Pennsylvania continue to conduct the Labor 2006 member to member voter education and mobilization programs. This year, political volunteerism is at an all time high with over half a million leaflets placed in the hands of workers since July at worksites and in communities across Pennsylvania. Workers are concerned about the direction of the nation under the leadership of President Bush and U.S. Senator Rick Santorum.
Union households are expected to represent one out of three voters in November, as they did in the 2004 Presidential election.
