2004 Convention Resolutions
Resolution No. 14
ASSISTANCE TO STRIKERS
WHEREAS, Workers who go out on strike do so at great costs to themselves and their families; and
Workers who go out on strike are trying to improve their working conditions for themselves and all workers; and
Workers today face enormous financial pressure that their forefathers and mothers did not face; and
Today’s economy is less forgiving than the economy of just two decades ago. Banks are not locally owned, half the economy is borrowed money, lenders are not local, utilities are foreign (or out-of-state owned) all working without a human face or understanding; and
Fringe benefits, including health care, make up 30% of pay.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That the Pennsylvania AFL-CIO work with its affiliates to adopt legislation that would assure continuation of benefits and provide financial assistance in lock-outs where there is an Unfair Labor Practice Strike.
