Resolution No. 20
PUBLIC SECTOR OSHA
WHEREAS, Workers employed by State, County and Municipal employers are not covered by Federal OSHA nor any comprehensive State Occupational Safety and Health Law; and
Public workers have the highest accident and injury rate next to mining per 100,000 workers; and
Public workers work in some of the most hazardous occupations such as sewer and water authorities, gas and electric service, highway repair and maintenance and in public institutions including nursing homes, prisons and other dangerous environments; and
House Bill 432 (Buxton-Dauphin) addresses the problems, by requiring the State’s public employers to comply with a State OSHA Law.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That the Pennsylvania AFL-CIO, and it’s affiliates, work for passage of a Public Sector OSHA Bill for Pennsylvania’s public workers.
