2004 Convention Resolutions
Resolution No. 21
ORGANIZING
WHEREAS, Growing the Labor Movement is one of the top priorities of Organized Labor; and
America and the Pennsylvania Labor Laws make organizing very difficult; and
Expanding organizing activities is a top priority of the National AFL-CIO; and
Workers face being discharged or retaliated against for engaging in lawfully protected organizing activities; and
The Bush Administration in Washington engages regularly in anti-union activity including the virtual denial of organizing rights for members of the Department of Homeland Security and attacking the union rights of civilian workers who are members of AFGE and work on defense-related activities; and
Organizing must be a top priority for all unions; and
Pennsylvania continues to lose union members due to contracting-out, privatization and an adverse legal system.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That the Pennsylvania AFL-CIO work with it’s affiliates to facilitate organizing by supporting new organizing techniques such as card check recognition, corporate campaigns and union activities.
THEREFORE, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the Pennsylvania AFL-CIO support legislative changes at the State and National level that will mandate card check recognition and first contract mandatory binding arbitration.
