2004 Convention Resolutions

Resolution No. 24

HEALTH CARE COST CONTAINMENT COALITION

WHEREAS, Health care cost, quality and access continue to put enormous pressure on our health care system; and

Ever escalating costs of health care are causing employers to try to shift cost increases onto workers or to drop all health insurance for workers; and

Double-digit cost increases in health care are unsustainable for purchasers creating both a State and National crisis; and

The Pennsylvania AFL-CIO, by Resolution from the 35th Constitutional Convention, was directed to address these issues of health care cost, access and quality, to the extent possible; and

The Pennsylvania AFL-CIO, along with the Pennsylvania Business Roundtable and the Pennsylvania Builders Association, has worked to convene a working group of purchasers to address the health care crisis.

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That the Pennsylvania AFL-CIO continue in it’s leadership role, in coalition with other health care purchasers, to address the health care crisis both legislatively and through whatever other means available to assure affordable quality health care.
