Resolution No. 43

SWEATSHOPS

WHEREAS, For over 50 years both federal and state law have prohibited sweatshop Labor; and

The Bush Administration has pushed, with the support of the Congress, legislation that allows Free Trade Agreements with countries that operate sweatshops, prison and child labor; and

There is little investigation, regulation or identification of the source of products procured from countries that operate sweatshops, prison and child labor; and

Pennsylvania tax dollars are used to purchase goods from any bidder without regard to sweatshops, prison or child labor.

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That the Pennsylvania AFL-CIO support executive and legislative action to assure that no tax dollars are used to purchase goods made with sweatshop, prison or child labor.
