2004 Convention Resolutions

Resolution No. 53

UNION-BUSTERS AND LABOR LAW REFORM

WHEREAS, Current U.S. Labor Law fails to adequately protect a worker's right to join a union, and

Employers and Management consultants frequently misuse the law to their advantage by acts of intimidation, demotions and firing of union supporters, and

Unions are held to higher standards by the U.S. Department of Labor by their requirement that unions must file Labor Management (LM) Reports but this requirement is not enforced against Management and their Union-Busting Consultants; and

The U.S. Department of Labor is now creating even more onerous and ridiculous reporting requirements for Unions, while still exempting Management and Union- Busters, and

Many Americans want to organize but are stopped by the illegal, unethical and immoral anti-union behavior of many companies and their hired modern-day gunslingers.

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That the Pennsylvania AFL-CIO, and each affiliate, contact the U.S. Department of Labor and their Federal Legislators to complain about this failure of Management and their consultants to file reports listing the amount of monies spend to combat Local Unions and urge them to enforce the law for both the employers and their consultants, and create a new law, that will provide protections for workers to organize, allowing them to exercise their right to form a union in their workplace.
