2004 Convention Resolutions

Resolution No. 55

CONGRATULATIONS TO GOVERNOR RENDELL, CHAIRMAN NEWMAN AND THE MEN AND WOMEN OF THE P.L.C.B. WINE AND SPIRITS SHOPPES

WHEREAS, Since the appointment of Jonathan Newman, as Chairman of the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board (P.L.C.B.), he has been working with Governor Rendell and the General Assembly and has instituted great changes in the operation of the Wine and Spirits Shoppes, and

These changes have included Internet ordering, Limited Sunday sales, discount outlet stores, and Wine and Spirits Shoppes inside Supermarkets, and

These innovations have increased customer and legislative satisfaction with the P.L.C.B. Wine and Spirits Shoppes, pushing the threat of privatization off the legislative agenda, further securing the jobs of 3,500 union members, and

Revenue to the Commonwealth's General Fund has been increased by these measures, recapturing sales from out of state and illegal sources, and

More funds have been dedicated to training the employees of the P.L.C.B. in both customer service and alcohol education renewing the P.L.C.B.'s dedication to controlling the sale of alcohol to sober adults and protecting our children and communities by preventing sales to underage drinkers.

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That the Pennsylvania AFL-CIO congratulate Governor Rendell and Chairman Newman for their foresight and willingness to work with Organized Labor for the benefit of all Pennsylvanians, and

THEREFORE, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the women and men of the P.L.C.B. be commended for their service in protecting and serving their Commonwealth.
