The officers of the Pennsylvania AFL-CIO, President Rick Bloomingdale, and Secretary-Treasurer Frank Snyder issued the following joint statement on the one year anniversary of the January 6 insurrection: 

here weren’t many strikes in recent decades in which working people scored big victories, but the 1989 Pittston strike was one. Two years earlier, the Pittston Coal Company, in Pennsylvania, dropped out of a trade group that had negotiated a union contract with the United Mine Workers, and the company demanded cuts to miners’ health benefits.

HARRISBURG – The Bakery, Confectionery, Tobacco Workers and Grain Millers International Union (BCTGM) recently announced the final vote on the new contract for workers on strike at Kellogg’s.  For more than eleven weeks, roughly 1,400 workers at four locations across the country have walked the picket line for fair wages and an end to discriminatory workplace practices.  The officers of the Pennsylvania AFL-CIO have issued the following statements in response to the union members’ decision:  

Every year the Pennsylvania AFL-CIO Education Committee holds a Scholarship Essay Contest for graduating high school seniors and post-secondary students from affiliated union families.   This year's contest theme is the life and legacy of the late National AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka.  We hope this contest introduces learners to the values of the labor movement and the importance of union solidarity.

The U.S. tech sector is the next frontier for labor organizing, and its workers are starting to understand the collective power unions have, President of the AFL-CIO Liz Shuler said on Friday at the Reuters Next Conference.

For more than two months, members of Ironworkers Local 851 have been on strike at Erie Strayer.  The company refuses to budge to provide the basics for their workers.  The entire union movement across the Commonwealth stands in support of the workers who are fighting for living wages, a dental plan and a fair attendance policy that treats workers with dignity.
