Pennsylvania AFL-CIO Attends Labor Communications Conference, Wins Seat On ILCA Executive Council

This past week, members of the Pennsylvania AFL-CIO communications staff attended the International Labor Communications Association (ILCA) conference in Los Angeles, to network with other labor communicators, and to learn about successful and innovative communications campaigns that have resulted in political, legislative, and organizing victories.  The Pennsylvania AFL-CIO also received two awards, for the content and for the design of the State Federation’s new website.

Over the three day conference, panels and breakout sessions included such topics as using social media to build worker power, engaging new and young workers, framing messages for public appeal, and understanding how reporters cover our Labor Movement.

Elections for the new Executive Council of the ILCA were also held on the final day of the conference, and Mike Johnson, a staff member with the Pennsylvania AFL-CIO, was elected as one of the Vice Presidents of the ILCA, and will be the sole representative on the Council from the state of Pennsylvania.

A gallery below highlights many of the exceptional guest speakers and lecturers who participated in the conference.  Thank you to the ILCA for an informative, well-organized and well-attended 2013 conference!
