State Senate Kicks Off Anti-Worker Agenda

Screen Shot 2017-02-10 at 10.37.21 AMThis week the Pennsylvania state Senate passed Senate Bill 166 a piece of paycheck “protection” legislation introduced by Senator John Eichelberger, in a vote of 28-22.  Senator Scott Wagner’s similar bill, Senate Bill 167, did not receive a vote in the chamber this week.  Senate Bill 166 will proceed to the state House in the coming months and we will remain vigilant in our opposition.

Paycheck “protection” bills have nothing to do with actually protecting your wages, they solely target the VOLUNTARY contributions of public sector employees to their union.  Processing the payroll deductions is a minuscule cost to the state amounting to less than $100 dollars a year, and unions offer to cover this cost through contract negotiations.

This bill seeks to silence police officers, firefighters, teachers and other government employees and weaken their ability to advocate for safer work conditions, better resources, and decent benefits. Instead of paycheck “protection”, this bill is really paycheck DECEPTION.
