The White House has advanced the appointment of yet another anti-worker corporate lobbyist to oversee policies that impact our workplaces and our paychecks. Eugene Scalia, the son of former U.S. Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia, has spent his career threatening the interests of workers.
Scalia has worked with corporations and businesses in high-profile labor fights. If his confirmation as Labor Secretary is successful, he will push through anti-worker, anti-union policies, negatively impacting families already struggling in a rigged economy.
Reporter Alex Gangitano at The Hill wrote: “As a lawyer, Scalia fought unions in many important cases. Among the most notable was his defense of Boeing in 2011 after the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) accused the company of trying to open a factory in South Carolina as retaliation against striking workers in Washington state. The Obama NLRB later dropped the case.
Scalia’s track record has 2020 Democrats who are highlighting labor issues strongly opposing his nomination.”
American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees President Lee Saunders told The Hill, “Scalia is not going to help folks at all and that’s why it’s so important that we have a group of candidates that are pushing and supporting issues that have an impact on working families.”
